Sky

My personal AI assistant. It's always on, runs on a server I control, and keeps track of what's waiting on me.

A 30-second loop in painted anime style. Meet Sky, on when my laptop is off: Sky, an AI assistant drawn as a calm professional with a sky-blue bob, works at the night desk while the laptop is shut. She keeps her list (checks all good, backup restored, 2 notes need your OK). In the shared vault she files notes and offers one for approval: she suggests, I decide. At sunrise she sends a good-morning message. In the evening she lines up picks: a quiet film, new places for dinner, something to learn. Screens are illustrated with dummy content; scenes are AI-generated.
A day with Sky. Illustrated screens with dummy content; Sky and the painted scenes are AI-generated.

How it works

  1. 01

I message it in chat, like texting a friend.

  2. 02

It works on a server I control, day and night.

  3. 03

It keeps a list of what's done and what's waiting on me.

Why I built it

I wanted an assistant that’s always on and remembers across conversations. I also wanted to learn what it takes to run one myself.

What I learned

  • Running an AI yourself means owning the boring parts: access keys, backups, and checking that a backup really restores.
  • Small outages teach the most. Two of my rules came from problems that went unnoticed for a week.
  • Memory works best when the AI suggests and I decide what it keeps.
